Alien

Alien is Alastair Johnson. Alastair Johnson is Alien. Conceived in North London in the late eighties, using a four-track, bass and some borrowed electronics, Alien developed an unmistakable lo-fi electronic sound. Via a development deal and the patronage of Vince Clarke Alastair signed to Shiny Beast on the week he finished his exams, two E.Ps were released (hitting No. 7 and No. 8 respectively in the NME Dance Chart) to great critical approval. This led to a deal with prestigious experimental label Blue Room Released. During this time, Alien played many live events including the Phoenix Festival, London’s Brixton Academy and the Astoria. At the turn of the century, two singles and an album later, the initial phase of Alien concluded.

After ten years of sporadic output, an opportunity arose to write music for a collaborative light installation, which led to the regeneration of the Alien. Signing to Hottwerk Records, an acclaimed second album, What Happens When You Get To The Edge, was issued in 2015. Playing live regularly for the last few years has led to shows with Silver Apples, Ulrich Schnauss, Dälek and Melt Yourself Down. Releases for Courier Sound and Art Aud signals that there is much more to come. The Art-Aud EP was Bandcamp’s Electronic record of the Month upon its release.
